The fine print, minus the mystery
Terms of Use
Last updated: 15 July 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Comics AI mobile application for iPhone and iPad (the "App") and this website. Comics AI is operated by its owner ("we", "us", the "Developer"). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. The service
Comics AI lets you create comics: generate comic panels from text descriptions with artificial intelligence, keep characters consistent across panels, transform sketches and in-app drawings into finished artwork, decorate pages with speech bubbles, captions, fonts and stickers, and assemble and export multi-page comic books as PDF files. AI image generation is performed by remote AI infrastructure; an internet connection is required for generation features.
2. Eligibility & age
You must be at least 13 years old - or 16 where your country sets a higher minimum digital-consent age - to use the App. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the App only with the consent and involvement of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use. The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them; if you believe a child has used the App without a parent's consent, please contact us (section 22).
3. No account needed
The App does not ask you to register, and we never ask for your name, e-mail address or password. On first launch the App creates a random anonymous identifier that links your credit balance and purchase records to your device. This identifier is stored in your device's secure Keychain so your balance survives reinstalls on the same device. Because the identifier is anonymous and device-bound, your credit balance does not transfer between devices. See our Privacy Policy for details on what is stored.
4. Subscriptions
Comics AI offers auto-renewable subscriptions ("PRO"), purchased and billed through your Apple ID. Each PRO plan grants a set number of credits at the start of every billing period. The plans available, their price and the number of credits each one grants are shown in the App and on the App Store at the time you subscribe. Prices appear in your local currency, and these amounts may change over time; any change takes effect for future billing periods only and never reduces credits you have already been granted (see section 5).
Subscription plans that are no longer offered continue to renew and receive their credit grant each renewal for as long as they remain active.
- PRO also unlocks all comic styles, consistent characters and custom character creation, removes the watermark from exports, and enables credit-pack purchases.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Apple's guide: support.apple.com/HT202039.
- Cancelling stops future renewals; your subscription features remain active until the end of the period you paid for - and your credits remain yours either way (see section 5).
5. Credits
Credits are the App's in-app unit for AI generation. Each creation spends credits from your balance - a base amount per generation, plus more for each reference you attach (a character in the scene, a photo, or a sketch or drawing being transformed). For example, at current rates a comic panel from a text description costs 10 credits, plus 5 for each attached reference. These rates may change over time, and the exact cost of every creation is always shown on its button before you tap it. Key rules:
- Credits never expire and are never reset. Unused credits roll over from period to period, and remain spendable even after a subscription lapses or is cancelled.
- Credits are removed from your balance in exactly two situations: when you spend them on a generation, and when Apple refunds the purchase that granted them (section 7).
- Failed generations never cost credits - if the AI fails to produce an image, the spent credits are refunded to your balance automatically.
- New users receive a one-time grant of 60 welcome credits, free.
- Credits are a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to use the App's generation features. They are not money, have no cash value, cannot be redeemed, exchanged or resold, and are tied to your anonymous identifier on the device they were granted to.
6. Credit packs (top-ups)
Subscribers with an active PRO plan can buy one-time credit packs ("top-ups") for an instant boost. The packs available, the number of credits each contains and their prices are shown in the App at the time of purchase and may change over time.
Pack credits behave exactly like subscription credits: they never expire, roll over indefinitely, and remain spendable after your subscription ends. Packs are consumable in-app purchases and require an active subscription at the moment of purchase; credits from packs you already bought are unaffected by later subscription changes.
7. Payments & refunds
- All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment card details.
- Refunds are handled exclusively by Apple under Apple's refund policies - request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- If Apple refunds a purchase, the credits granted by that purchase are removed from your balance (your balance can go to zero but never negative against other purchases). This is the only circumstance in which granted credits are ever taken away.
8. Fair use & restrictions
To keep the service fast and affordable for everyone, generation runs through our secured infrastructure with fair-use safeguards. We may temporarily or permanently restrict access to AI generation for accounts that we reasonably believe are abusing the service - for example attempting to manipulate credit balances, automate bulk generation, bypass the App's safeguards, or generate prohibited content. Where a restriction is applied you will see a notice in the App, and you can contact us (section 22) if you believe it was applied in error. Restrictions affect generation access only; they do not delete your existing comics.
9. Content policy
You may not use the App to create, upload or share content that is unlawful, sexually explicit, hateful, harassing, defamatory, or that exploits or endangers minors, nor to infringe the intellectual-property or privacy rights of others. Prompts pass automated content filters, and the AI provider applies its own safety systems, but you remain responsible for what you create. We may refuse or restrict access to generation that breaches this policy (section 8).
10. Your content & AI generation
- Your inputs stay yours. You keep ownership of the prompts, sketches and photos you submit ("Inputs"). You grant us and our service providers a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to store, transmit and process your Inputs - including sending them to third-party AI infrastructure - solely to operate the App and generate your comics.
- You confirm you have the rights. You represent that you hold all rights and permissions needed for us to process each Input, that your Inputs do not infringe anyone's rights or break the law, and - where a photo depicts another person - that you have their permission.
- AI output is generated automatically. Generated images are produced by machine-learning models whose output we do not directly control. They may be inaccurate, may unintentionally resemble existing works or images that other users generate, and are not guaranteed to be unique, original, or free of third-party rights. It is your responsibility to review each result and to ensure that your use of it - including any commercial or public use - does not infringe the copyright, trademark or other rights of any third party.
11. Ownership & your creations
- The App, its design, code, graphics, fonts, sticker artwork and other materials are owned by the Developer or its licensors. You receive a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App.
- Subject to these Terms and applicable law, we claim no ownership over the comics you create - your panels, pages and books are yours to use, including commercially, to the extent permitted by the legal status of AI-generated works in your jurisdiction.
- Exports made without an active PRO subscription carry a small "ComicsAI.com" watermark.
12. Third-party services
The App relies on: Apple (App Store distribution, payments, iCloud/CloudKit configuration), Google Firebase (anonymous identity and credit ledger), and an AI infrastructure provider that renders generations from the prompts and reference images you submit. Interface icons are provided by Icons8 and Freepik. Your use of Apple services is additionally governed by Apple's Media Services Terms.
13. Apple & the App Store
Because the App is distributed through Apple's App Store, the following also apply:
- These Terms are concluded between you and the Developer only, not with Apple. The Developer, not Apple, is solely responsible for the App and its content.
- Your licence to use the App is a non-transferable licence to use it on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
- Apple is not responsible for any product warranties. If the App fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation, and any other claims are the Developer's responsibility.
- The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product-liability, regulatory and consumer-protection claims, and any third-party claim that the App or your use of it infringes intellectual-property rights.
- You represent that you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as "terrorist-supporting", and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government prohibited-parties list.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the App.
- Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance Apple has the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
14. Disclaimer of warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular generation will meet your expectations. This section applies only to the extent permitted by law and does not affect your statutory consumer rights (section 16).
15. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data or goodwill, arising from (a) your access to or use of, or inability to access or use, the App; or (b) any conduct or content of any third party. In no event shall our aggregate liability exceed the amount you paid us through the App in the twelve months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded (see section 16).
16. Your statutory consumer rights
If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any right or remedy you have under the mandatory consumer-protection laws of your country of residence that cannot lawfully be waived - including your statutory rights regarding the quality and conformity of digital content and services, and any right to a refund, repair or replacement under those laws. Where any part of these Terms conflicts with those mandatory rights, those rights prevail and the remainder of these Terms continues to apply.
17. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Developer from any claims, liabilities, expenses and damages (including reasonable legal fees) brought by a third party arising from your Inputs, the content you generate, your use of the App, or your violation of these Terms. This does not apply to the extent a claim results from our own breach or negligence, or where such an indemnity is not permitted by the consumer law that applies to you.
18. Suspension & termination
We may suspend or end your access to the App or its generation features if you breach these Terms or the content policy, where required for security or legal reasons, or if we reasonably suspect abuse (section 8). You may stop using the App at any time, and may cancel any subscription through your Apple ID. Provisions that by their nature should continue - including Ownership, Your content & AI generation, the disclaimers, the limitation of liability, indemnification and governing law - survive any termination.
19. Governing law & disputes
These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or the App, are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory laws of your country of residence, and you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the country where you live. Before starting any formal claim we encourage you to contact us (section 22) so we can try to resolve the matter informally first.
20. General terms
- Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in full effect.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right at any time, that is not a waiver of the right at any later time.
- Assignment. We may transfer these Terms - for example as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the App - and your rights under them remain tied to your device identity. You may not transfer your rights without our consent.
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and the App Store terms that apply to your purchases, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App.
- Events beyond our control. We are not liable for failure or delay caused by events outside our reasonable control, including outages of Apple, our AI provider or other third-party services, network failures, or acts of nature.
21. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the App evolves. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version, and material changes will be highlighted in the App or on this site. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms; if you do not agree to a change, you should stop using the App and may cancel any subscription.
22. Contact
These Terms are offered by the owner of Comics AI. Questions about these Terms, or any request relating to your use of the App, can be sent to contact@comicsai.com. Where required by law, the developer's registered contact details are also provided through the App Store.
